Aspen Style To the outsider, single life at altitude appears an inviting stew of attractive people and pulsating scenes. To the insider, it’s all that and a whole lot weirder. In this moment, the flurry of ironic truths about dating in Aspen is dizzying: You will run into a former flame when you least expect it; platonic friends of the opposite sex are always presumed romantic partners, fodder for the small-town rumor mill; and successful courtship seems to require more effort than elsewhere—for recent transplants, especially. No doubt, Colorado mountain towns are strange places to mate. While off the beaten path geographically, much like Telluride or Crested Butte, our fair city is very much on the radar of the beautiful people. Its inhabitants are also athletic, intelligent, and charismatic, with worldliness to match. Independence and adrenaline are the two most coveted drugs, and our rich social playground cultivates euphoria and debauchery—in particular after dark. So it should come as no surprise that scouting a soul mate, or even just a steady, in this hedonistic yet cerebral utopia is as complex as the fickle weather discussed during a bad first date.

I’m not going to get into a discussion about which fragrance is the dupe for which and how similar they are. This is a review for the fragrance I experienced on a boyfriend of mine from a couple of years ago. He loved this scent. He was an NYPD cop and he thought this fragrance was refreshing, summery, cool and casual. He wore it every day at work and acquired a matching aftershave. He would kiss me before he went off to work and this scent always brought me pleasure.
I don’t see this scent as being like Cool Water. Cool Water smells like a man’s ritual in the bathroom first thing in the morning. He showers, he puts on soap, he lathers, he steps out of the shower, he wraps a towel around his waist while shaving his facial hair and puts on an aftershave. The Cool Water cologne is easy on the nose, aquatic, and very fresh and like an extension of an aftershave, so he spritzes on some Cool Water and puts on clothes.
That’s what Cool Water has always been like for me. Aspen by Coty is a trip to Aspen Colorado. It’s the moment of arrival on a cool winter’s morning. The mountain air is frigid but energizing.
